So, for both solutions, we got examples of the only cases people tried just that which also shows why nobody else did nor should try the same thing (especially not together) Or when the site the thing directed to was currently or permanently unavailable (either by being removed or just getting a different URL). For example, if both people had different versions. Regarding the second, Left 4 Dead did that - and it wasn't very well liked there and very inconvinient at the best of times, making things impossible at worst. And in KF specifically, updates meant that the updated version was also instantly not whitelisted anymore. #Payday 2 map editor download#The second one might be a bit more problematic, but at the same time the most simple solution I can think of is if the player didn't download the map file before hand it can just give an error message and direct player's to the Workshop page that includes the map.The first, it's shown by Killing Floor why it doesn't really work out - most people won't bother with custom maps (Killing Floor got around that by allowing server-side perk-progression) and whitelisting took ages. ![]() I don't see the end game of custom maps being a problem, I see Overkill creating the tools for a niche and what I assume is a rather rigid game engine that lacks the ease of use Source or the Unreal Engine would have, The second one might be a bit more problematic, but at the same time the most simple solution I can think of is if the player didn't download the map file before hand it can just give an error message and direct player's to the Workshop page that includes the map. The first issue is easily rectified the same way Killing Floor did, by making it so only white listed levels personally approved by Overkill can give you any reward/contribution to achievements. You notice the problem which will happen?Īnd that is also ignoring the obvious issue what happens when someone doesn't have a heist in question as the game currently has no way to transfer data from one player to another and if it would have, don't expect the download rate to be anywhere close to be tolerable. I hope if they do make a map maker that they make it FREE. Thank you for spending your time to hear my thoughts. I hope this will become a reality it will bring a new "breed" of gamers to the Payday 2 community, map makers. Now I'm not comparing Valve to Overkill becaue Valve is better, because they both have their flaws and strongpoints, but because Valve created a tool that can help them with "interacting" with the community just like what Overkill is doing whith the discussions thread that created the "Perk Deck Overhaul" update. Just like what Valve did with Hammer, a tool for creating maps for the source engine without it being the "source engine". But Overkill can take some times out of creating paid content for Payday 2, *cough**cough* DLC *cough**cough*, and create a map creator/editor that does not affiliate itself with the game engine exept that it can create maps that the engine can read and run. ![]() I do know that Diesel and Diesel 2.0, the engine that Overkill / Grin uses, is a private game engine only for overkill employee use only. But it would be awesome if Overkill can release a map editor to create heists or "a new gamemode." Sort of like what valve did with Hammer and Source SDK. I don't read the fourms that much so I don't know if someone has suggested this already. ![]()
